In Reality people treat each other inhumanely for personal gain and because they are ignorant to anyone but themselves. In The Hunger Games the entire government treats all twelve districts inhumanely, even completely destroying the thirteenth district 74 years prior. While most of the twelve districts live in poverty the capital lives in luxury and looks upon the Hunger Games as entertainment. The Hunger Games is extremely barbaric but I think it brings the communities together in each district because everyone feels for the chosen children. Also, when the tributes are in the arena, they are forced to kill each other and act inhumane for the capitals entertainment
I agree that people treat each outher inhumanely for personal gain and beacause they are igrorant to anyone but themselves. In Sarah’s Key the French arrest Jewish families. At the time they don’t care about sending all these innocent families to their death, they only worry about following orders so they don’t get killed. Also, the German are trying to eliminate the Jews so they can become more powerful. It’s for their own personal gain.
I also agree with your statement. People throughout the book do not only treat each other inhumanly just because they want to. They do it to benefit themselves. The Capitol is rich and powerful. They treat all other districts inhumanly as putting them all into the hunger games in the arena so they all have to fend for themselves. And not look out for each other, but only for themselves.
I agree with your response of people treating eachother inhumanely for their own benefits. If more people were like Katniss, selfless, then maybe we would start treating eachother better. But if people continue to act selfishly then things can only get worse.
I agree with your response, in which people only treat each other inhumanely for personal gain very similiar to the reason why people bully each other. People only bully each other for their own satisfaction. I also read the Hunger Games and i think that the capitals should have shared the wealth even though they are too greedy to do so. i disagree with the fact that the communities are together because of the chosen children. i dont believe they are together at all. All they do is fight so how would that bring them together?
If one district has more power than the rest like district 12 or like how the capitals have more power then this would cause them to be power hungry and treat the rest of the districts unkindly or inhumanely. Also like how noone cares about anyone but themselves. That would also cause them to be inhumane
The cause of people treating each other inhumanely, I believe, is for the good of themselves, and because they don’t realize how it really affects the other person. In My Sister’s Keeper, Anna was created to keep her sister Kate alive through many surgeries, bone marrow transplants, and soon to be a kidney transplant. Sara Fitzgerald, Anna and Kate’s mother, feels as though all of this doesn’t affect Anna, and that she must go through with it in order to save her sister. Sara, however, is wrong. All of these surgeries do affect Anna. Kate is able to convince her mother that what she is making Anna do is inhumanely, and that she wouldn’t be able to survive surgery anyway so why destroy Anna’s life. Like today, many people don’t realize that their inhumanely actions do affect people around them. If people stopped worrying about the good of themselves, and more about the good of others, all of these inhumanely actions would stop.
I highly agree with what you had to say. Anna wasnt important to her parents compared to Kate. Also like you said she didnt have long to live and didnt have a very good chance of surviving even with the transplants or the bone marrow. I dont believe if people stopped worrying about themselves it would stop inhumanely actions but it would definitely help a lot if people did
I agree with this in that Sara thinks that it is Ana’s duty to save her sister and she has no other option. When Kate finally gets through to Ana and makes her too believe that what Sara is doing is wrong she finally takes her mother to court before the kidney transplant where Kate could die anyways! Kate knowing what her mother is doing is wrong proves that Sara is treating Ana inhumanly for her own personal gain. If Kate can accept her death, why can’t Sara?
I do agree with most of what you have to say but the reason Sara can’t accept her own daughter’s death is because she put so much effort into keeping her daughter alive for all these years that she can’t accept the end is finally coming to her daughter. The only reason that Sara finally understood Anna’s point of view is because Sara’s most beloved child, Kate, finally enlightened her and put her in Anna’s spot in the situation.
I agree with what Brooke had to say. Sara was too busy thinking about how hard it would be to lose a member of her family, that she did not think about how it was affecting the other members of her family. She was too caught up in Kate’s life that she did not even show any attention towards her other two children. The only time Sara was worried about Anna was when it had to do with Anna helping Kate. One of the main reasons people treat each other inhumanely, is when they are thinkig about themselves first. This is portrayed in My Sister’s Keeper on a variety of different levels.
In life people treat others inhumanly for their own personal self. they do it because it either makes them feel better about them selves or they are just very insecure about them selves. In the Hunger Games the government tends to treat all of the 12 districts “inhumanly”. and eventually destroys the 13th district. you see how all the districts live in poverty but capitols live in luxury and wealth. it reminds me of the bull in the ring, for everyone’s entertainment they watch one man fight with a bull but at the end the bull will be killed for amusement. its barbaric and very “inhumanly” and that is how i see this.
I agree with what you are saying. All the the hunger games are is entertanment. The games where originaly made to punish the districts for rebelling against the capitol but now it is just punishing the tributes and their family
I agree with Mason The only reason why people treat eachother inhumanely is because of pure selfishness. I also read the book The Hunger Games and he makes a good point that what the government does to the districts is for amusement. It is barbaric and just wrong people should be treated equally. The tributes from district are forced to kill eachother just so the government can enjoy themselves.
I agree with what you have to say about insecurity. Mr. Harvey in The Lovely Bones, as the neighborhood loner, has insecurity issues which he thinks he relieves by killing Susie. Truthfully, we all have our insecurities. When it comes to getting over them, however, we must focus on ourselves and what makes us insecure, rather than looking for indirect and unhealthy ways to lash out on others. Unfortunately, severe obsessions over insecurities like the ones Mr. Harvey had, leads to others getting hurt, not only including Susie, but also her family.
Edit: Unfortunately, severe obsessions over insecurities like the ones Mr. Harvey had, leads to others getting hurt, not only including Susie, but also her family.
“leads” should be “lead”
I agree with your belief that it is for their own self gain. In the novel, Sarah’s Key, the soldiers in Europe all obeyed Hitler and killed the Jewish people. Some of the soldiers knew that what they were doing was completely wrong, but they did it anyways. They did it because they knew that they would not get in trouble with Hitler. They knew that they would be paid and they would not have the fear of being killed. The sodiers followed all of the orders and split Jewish families apart, and also killed them. In doing so, they were protecting just themselves and did not care about the Jewish people they were hurting. Treating the Jews inhumanely was for the benefit of themselves and no one else.
In My Sister’s Keeper, I believe greed causes people to treat each other inhumanely. In the story the parents of Kate just wanted her to live and they wanted Anna to give her bone marrow to her sister. They didn’t even care what Anna had to say about it. They just wanted the older sister to live longer. The parents were treating their youngest daughter like she wasn’t even important enough to them and she was being treated very inhumane. If you were Anna what would you do?
I agree with your response, and that greed causes people to treat each other inhumanely. If Sara thought a little more about what Anna wanted, and not just about Kate, the greed would be gone and Anna wouldn’t be treated inhumanely anymore. To answer your question, if I were Anna I would probably do what she did, only less drastically. Rather than going to a professional, I would just talk to my parents about what I felt.
I understand what you’re saying, but I would call it selfishness over greed. Sara and Brian were selfish to begin with for the reason why they conceived Anna. Sara put her feelings in front of her daughters because she never asked either of them what they wanted. Everybody in the book had their own way of being selfish. which answers the question of why people to treat each other inhumanely. People treat each other inhumanely because they’d rather put their own feelings first, even if they’re wrong.
i dont know what i would do if i was annna. i feel like in a way i would donate because she would be my sister and i would love her. on the other hand donating bone marrow to her would just prolong her sister from dieing. She would still have cancer but just live a little longer. Over all though if i was in her situation i think i wouldnt because her mom is also pushing her to do it. she doesnt even carte about her. That would hurt me alot if i was her.
i do agree with what you are saying, and how they didnt seem to care about Anna. But they were also thinking about both kids and how they just wanted to keep both alive. I dont think they wanted to hurt anna, they just wanted to be able to keep kate alive, which ment donations from anna. if i were anna i dont know what i would have done because i know it would have been my life but it also would have been my sister in a life or death situation. i would have wanted to do what i could to help to be able to save my family.
In Sarah’s Key, I think that religion and race cause people to treat each other inhumanely. This book is about the french jews, mostly children who were born in france, who were sent to concentration camps by the french police. They were put through such disturbing conditions just because they were Jewish. Even though these children are Jewish they were born in France, they were french children. This was something that the main character Sarah could not understand. She thought, “Why was this happening to her? What had she done, or her parents done, to deserve this? Why was being Jewish so dreadful? Why were Jews being treated like this?”(pg. 47) There was no reason that they were being treated like that, except for the reason that they were Jewish. They did nothing, they were living their lives just as any other human being would. If people didn’t care about what religion you are what accent you have, or even what color you skin and hair are so much death of innocent people could have been prevented.
I agree with you Seana, but I think many people did not know what to do and jumped on the bandwagon. What happened to the French Jews was absolutely awful! I would have protected as many people as i could, i don’t understand how some people can sit back and watch innocent people and children die!
Both race and religion are very good points. I still believe, however, that if it weren’t for the ignorance of people neither race nor religion would be seen as an issue.
In the book My Sister’s Keeper, the main reason of inhumane treatment is for personal gain. Sara conceives a second child out of selfishness. She conceives a second child to be a donor of everything needed to keep the first child, Kate, alive. This is obviously inhuman because the second child, Ana, is too small to decide for herself whether or not she wants to help her older sibling. Once Ana grows up, she is so used to donating bone marrow and other things to her sister that it comes second nature. Sara treats Ana like this because she is too afraid to see her first daughter die. Kate is not requesting these surgeries for herself, however, her mother is demanding them from Ana. Finally Ana stands up to this inhumane treatment and takes her mother to court for medical emancipation.
I agree that the main reason could be personal gain because clearly having another child who is a perfect match would benefit Sara but I also think she did it because she felt it was the right thing to do for her family.I think that in the beginning she really thought they would only need to use the cord blood to help Kate and that would be the end of it. For me it is kind of hard to say whether the treatment was out of selfishness or love.
I agree with you that the one of the main reasons is for personal gain, having a child just to have a match to save her other child in my opinion is selfish of her. To be told that you have to donate to keep someone alive is wrong, even thought at first she was willing to do it for her sister.
People treat each other inhumanely for a variety of reasons. The chief reasons are greed, jealousy, and the pursuit and maintenance of power. Other reasons, such as in The Hunger Games, could be for survival.
The Capitol wants to maintain absolute control of the districts. When the districts rose up against the Capitol one was obliterated as a show of power. The other districts were forced to surrender and participate in the hunger games as a reminder of their weakness and submission. The Capitol is greedy and keeps the wealth of the districts for itself and leaves the citizens in squalor, fighting to survive.
Sometimes people are forced to be inhumane to each other, such as when the tributes are forced to kill in the Games. Without the Capitols greed the tributes might not have had to kill each other and could have possibly, although unlikely, been friends.
Would you have been inhumane to the other tributes in the games and survived or try to work things out humanely and if not killed in the area, been killed by the capitol?
I would have been an inhumane character, and try my best to win. I agree entirely with your post but i don’t believe the other districts were being punished and reminded of their weakness and submission. The capital knew how the districts worked, and they were able to defeat them and create the Hunger Games because it was death to your entire district, or the death of 23 children every year. It was awful and as you said The Capitol wants to maintain absolute power over the districts. What would you have done at the rebellion?
I agree that people will treat each other inhumanely because of survival. The people in the districts are forced to do things they don’t want to do because of their need to survive. When Katniss and Gale are in the woods and they see the girl and boy running for their lives, they don’t help them because they are afraid for their own lives. Later on Katniss regrets not helping them. The Capital knows they will respond this way because they have to. In the Hunger Games the tributes are forced to kill or be killed. The desperate need to survive can bring out the worst in people.
I agree with your points of why people treat others inhumanely. Mostly I think it is so that the Capitol can maintain power over the districts, like you said above. In order to survive, districts had to send their children to the Hunger Games in order for the Capitol to maintain power over districts and to show that the districts were weak by keeping them fighting against each other in the arena. I think I would have been forced to be inhumane in order to survive and in order to help my family survive and be fed, I would have put my name in the tesserae multiple times as well.
I agree with Keiran’s causes for people treating other people inhumanely in Suzanne Collins The HUnger Games the citizens are lead by greed and selfishness. IF in the same situation wouldn’t you have joined tofether with others to fight the capital? Instead they tried to free themselves like the boy who tried to runaway and that only lead to others treating each other inhumanely. When the citizens came together in a suicide pact and stopped treating each other inhumanely they beat the capitol.
If it was to survive people would try to treat people inhumane. If i was in the games i would try to survive because you cant always work things out with people and you have to be inhumane sometimes to survive.
In the book The Hunger Games people treated each other inhumanly to survive. The people in district 12 walked by others starving in the street because they did not have enough food to survive if they gave that person some food. In the games the tributes brutily killed each other to survive.Every thing they did they did to survive.i belive that anyone in that situation would do what they could to survive.
People are inhumane to each other in The Lovely Bones due to insanity and peoples apathy to others situations. George Harvey is an homicidal maniac that had killed a number of people before meeting his end under an icicle. He killed anything simply because he felt the urge to. He didn’t care about the effects of his actions on the family of the victim and only wanted to fulfill his own lust to kill.
I agree with your response, and that Mr. Harvey treated all of the girls he killed inhumanely only to fulfill his own satisfactions. Like many people today that treat others inhumanely, the reason behind it, like you said, is because they only care about themselves and not what will affect others.
I agree with this. Mr. Harvey was doing this for his own pleasure. Every time he killed or hurt women and animals he didn’t care that he was ruining peoples lives he was just doing it for the rush he got. it seems that why most people do inhumane things if we stopped being greedy there would probably be less inhumane acts.
I agree that people treat each other inhumanely in The Lovely Bones because of insanity. But it was probably a deeper emotional problem that Mr. Harvey had that led him to kill all of those young girls. No matter the reason though anyone who kills innocent people is clearly in the wrong.
I agree with Bryan. Mr. Harvey must have had alot more issues than just minor insanity. He must have had problems stemming from either his childhood or soemwere in his life that must have really messed up his mind since the things he did were really over the top such as rape and murder.
I also agree with this response. In the Lovely Bones, Mr.Harvey clearly had more complex issues in his past life to form this life of murdering. He was attatched to a strong and discusting lust to end the lives of helpless children and women for his own pleasure. And unfortunetly, his own life was probably wished to have ended sooner with the circumstances throughout the novel. Mr.Harvey was the key factor toward the existing inhumane society.
I agree that Mr, Harvey acts inhumane due to his own problems. He felt no remorse and this most likely stemmed from his childhood. His greed and lust led to the loss of many lives. If it wasnt for his sick desires, no one would have been harmed.
I agree that George Harvey from the Lovely Bones is simply a sick and twisted man. The only reason behind his inhumane actions is his urge to kill. Susie and his other victims did absolutely nothing to cause Mr. Harvey’s gruesome actions.
i agree with your response, in that Mr, Harvey was doing this for his own pleasure. like todays socieity people do it for themselves they have no regret. to them as long as it satisfies them there is no harm done. all of the victims he killed had done nothing to provok him to do this to them.
I agree that Mr. Harvey was an insane and sick man and that he did these thing for selfish reasons. He wasn’t just simply insane though, I believe his insanity came from his past and his childhood. But that still doesn’t it make it alright to rape and murder someone.
I agree with you that Mr. Harvey did treat Susie inhumane due to him being a homicidal maniac. A good point you bring up is that Mr. Harvey is selfish. He doesn’t care how he was affecting not only the girls he would kill but also their family and friends.
Jodi Picoult’s novel, My Sister’s Keeper, proposes an interesting cocktail for inhumanity. It calls for four parts desperation, three parts selfishness, and a splash of ignorance. It is difficult to label Mrs. Fitzgerald’s treatment of Anna as inhumane because there is a greater purpose. The truth is, Anna was taken advantage of by her mother. She was birthed for the sole purpose of eventually being used and internally mutilated for the benefit of her sister, Kate, slowly dying of APL.
It was out of desperation that Mrs. Fitzgerald had to turn to Anna as a savior for her daughter Kate. Anna was the only ready, and safe solution to Kate’s medical problems. The problem is, at what point does it become too much? For terminally ill patients, treatment only postpones the inevitable. When Kate’s kidneys failed there was no hope of her going back into remission. If Sara forced Anna to give up a kidney, it would be considered cruel and heartless. Sara has a tenacious, and passionately maternal character that drives her to never give up and try everything to get Kate healthy again.
Selfishness and ignorance come into play as factors in the conflict as well. Sara is so preoccupied with her own need to keep Kate that she forgets about Anna. It never crossed her mind that what she is doing to her could potentially be very harmful. Donating a kidney would have ruined many of Anna’s dreams. She would no longer be able to play hockey, a sport which she truly shows passion for. She would not be able to grow up and take everything out of life and fully experience everything. Ruining Anna’s future is an inhumane act on account of Sara.
But all things considered, what would you do in her situation? It is the most difficult thing a parent can do. To have to choose between the survival of one child or the health and well-being of another. Right now, i can say that i would accept the fate of Kate if i were in Sara’s position. But in reality, in the heat of the moment, no one with a heart can say that. People can say things at will when there are no real life consequences.
In the book, The Lovely Bones, Mr. Harvey treats Susie inhumanely for his own self-indulgences. By killing all these young girls, Mr. Harvey is satisfying himself. Once that satisfaction from one girl is gone, he feels the need to kill again, and moves on to the next. However, Mr. Harvey doesn’t realize that through his inhumane actions of self-indulgences, he is ruining the lives of all these families. If people maybe stopped worrying about what satisfies them, but what satisfies others, all of these inhumane actions would slowly stop. Wouldn’t you agree?
In The Hunger Games the main goal for everyone is for survival. In order to survive the games they can not treat each other with respect or anything of the kind. In a moment in the book there was a chance for Peeta to give another person in the book food to live. Although it would have helped someone else his main task was to live and to stay alive. I would say people do not always choose to treat others inhumanly just to do it. They have goals in mind just like in the hunger games. To benefit themselves.
I agree that people will treat each other inhumanely when it benefits them. The selfishness of the Capital is what makes them treat the people of the other districts inhumanely. They take pleasure in the hunger games where the tributes have to fight each other to the death. To them it is entertainment. They enjoy the control they have over the people of the districts. They have plenty of food and live comfortably while all the districts have to struggle. The double standard is made clear in the book when the tributes are treated to all the luxury of the capital before they are forced to fight in the arena.
In My Sisters Keeper, the parents inhumanely actions were mainly caused due to their ill child, Kate. Just because their first child, Jesse, was not a match, they went ahead and had a child that was genetically altered in order to save Kate. The girls mother, Sarah, never bothered to ask if Anna would willingly donate to her dying sister, she just went ahead and forced Anna to undergo these painful procedures. Sarah was so wrapped up in saving Kate that she didn’t care what happened to Anna. Why would any parent intentionally want to put their child through this kind of torture?
I agree that the parent’s inhumane actions are only due to the fact that Kate is very ill. The fact that Kate is dying, in my opinion does not give Sara the right to expose Anna to painful life changing proceedures. If Anna went through with the donating of her kidney she would not be able to participate in any physical activities ever again. I don’t believe that the parent’s truly realized that what they were doing to Anna was wrong until it was brought to their attention in court.
I agree that Brian and Sara’s inhumane actions towards Jesse and Anna are due to Kate’s illness. They are so focused on saving Kate that they sacrifice their other children. The attempts to save Kate’s life hurt Anna physically and Jesse emotionally. Jesse blames himself for not being a match to Kate and therefore Anna having to undergo painful procedures for Kate.
I don’t thing that they were trying to hurt Anna. To me it was more of them doing whatever they could to be able to save Kate, even if that ment doing things Anna had no say in. I do think it was wrong for them to do so much to Anna. Even when she was old enough to know what was going on they still wouldn’t ask her and when she was little they would trick her. Kate was their child to who was sick i think they were doing what ever they could just to save there child.
People treat other inhumanely for a variety of reasons. In the book the lovely bones Susie and many other young girls are treated inhumanely by Mr.Harvey. He treats them this way for the rush he gets when he murders someone, the power it gives him to over take another human and be able to just take every thing away from them. But while Mr. Harvey is taking the lives of many women he feels the pain of the lose in the families and he is frightened y the fact he could e discovered as a killer. This leads to a life of constant running and fear of being recognized which eventually brought him to a cruel death. So why is that people know something is wrong and it puts fear into there life why do they do it. they are doing it for their own pleasure.
People treat eachother inhumanely to prove their power and position is higher than the rest even if it’s not. In the book The Hunger Games the government picks tributes from all 12 districts to compete in a game in which the tributes kill eachother and the last one standing wins. The government also proved their power when they blew up District 13 for trying to rebel against their force. Inhumane treatment comes from pure selfishness, insecurity, intimidation, and personal gain.
The book, Lovely Bones is a great example if how and why people are treated inhumanly. In The Lovely Bones, Mr. Harvey is a prime example of inhumane treatment. He has murdered not only Susie but many other girls. Why does he treat people inhumane and act like this? Perhaps Mr. Harvey witnessed violence as a child, or perhaps it makes him feel in control. Another example of inhumane treatment is how Susie’s mother just gives up on her father and leaves to start a new life. Susie’s mother most likely does this out of selfishness to escape the sadness and grief of losing Susie. People treat each other this way because they rely on feelings of selfishness to guide them to decisions.
I do agree with your response. No one really knows why George Harvey murdered all of these girls. There was no initial intent he just did it on impulse. What he was doing was deeply hurting each family of the girls he killed. He did not think about anyone but himself. Susie was just murdered, to be murdered.
I agree with your response. Mr. Harvey is a selfish man who doesn’t care about anybody. He only looks for ways to please himself. I also see where your coming from with the violence as a child. Why else would he be doing this to Susie and other girls?
Greorge Harvey in the novel The Lovely Bones was a prime example of a man treating others inhumanley. Mr.Harvey had no reason to murder Susie. There was no original intend to kill her. She was there at the wrong time. It was not her fault she did nothing wrong. Mr. Harvey was a crazy homicidal man who did not consider anyone elses feelings.
I agree with your response. No one really knows why George Harvey murdered all of these girls. There was no initial intent he just did it on impulse. What he was doing was deeply hurting each family of the girls he killed. He did not think about anyone but himself. Susie was just murdered, to be murdered.
I completely agree, I love how you worded the reason for Susie’s murder. Because I also think there actually was no reason at all; just simply for the satisfaction of a self-centered man to be fufilled. I couldn’t ever imagine having no remorse whatsoever for the lives of others. More importantly, the way Mr.Harvey carelessly travels from place to place in the novel after each killing really resembles his inhumane-self.
In the book, The Lovely Bones, Mr. Harvery kills women and girls for his own self-indulgence. Mr. Harvey feels no remorse because it pleasures him to take control of his weaker victims. He is empty inside and the thrill of taking young girls partially fills the void; but once they are dead he is right back where he started. He was inhumane due to his own problems and insanity. He felt no responsibility for the damage ge caused to his victims for their families at any point.
I agree with you comment on how george killed susie for his own enjoyment. I would also say that George is completly insane which hinders him form making sane decisions.
I agree with demetrius . Susie was not the first victom of mr harveys to die.Mr. harvey was a physco.he enjoyed seeing people in pain and sufuring. i think he had mental issues and he could have been this way because of his past and or child hood.
Exactly! I agree completely that Mr. Harvey felt no responsibility whatsoever for his actions, which is completely inhumane. His thinking is extremely illogical and insane. I don’t think you could have worded it any better Demetrius, Mr Harvey kills young women, feels satisfied, but soon after is where he started. Mr. Harvey lacks self-control and this leeds him to go on with multiple inhumane acts and killings. I think it is very possible I think Mr. Harvey has mental issues that may have developed in his childhood that led him to be a serial killer. Do you think that may have been the reasoning for his inhumane behavior?
Absolutely, he most likely developed his problem as a child. As he grew older his insanity and issues progressed which led him to become a serial killer. I think he eventually hit a point of no return and loss all consciousness of his actions.
What causes people to treat each other inhumanely in the Hunger Games is that the main goal is to survive and kill your opponents in order to win. In this case i would act inhumanely in order to win the hunger games because i don’t want to die i would want to live. I would have to not respect or trust anyone because they would try to kill me so they could win but i would play under the radar. Try to not make myself a target because i would end up getting killed if i made myself a threat. Would you treat people inhumanely in order to win?
Given the circumstances of the hunger games many children are forced to treat others inhumanely. This is the only option if you are a participant in the games because if you do not fight your family is at risk. In this case I believe that anyone would treat others inhumanely even though they normally would not. Like Katniss had to kill several people throughout the games even though normally she was a kind young girl. The oppression of the Capitol forces people to treat one another inhumanely.
A clear example of what causes people to treat each other inhumanely in The Lovely Bones is Susie’s neighbor Mr. Harvey. Mr. Harvey created a fort under the ground just so that he could lure Susie there and brutally rape and kill her. It is clear that what caused him to act inhumanely was a psychological problem. Susie seeing in the end the other girls that Mr. Harvey had hurt and killed and looking back into his traumatic childhood helps to show that him treating others, specifically young girls, inhumanely is a psychological problem brought on by events that happened in his childhood.
There are all different reasons why people treat others inhumanely. Sometimes it comes from a place of pure cruelty or anger and sometimes it come from a place of love and thinking you are doing the right thing. In my sister’s keeper one could interpret Anna’s parents requiring her to donate for her sister as inhumane. Of course Anna’s parents wanted to have another child but she was a so called “designer baby” created to make sure she was a perfect match for her sister, Kate, who has cancer. Originally they only wanted to use her cord blood but after that did not work every time Kate needed something from a perfect match like platelets or white blood cells Anna’s parents had her donate. Obviously she was too young to make the decision for herself so her parents made it for her. In this case what caused Anna’s parents to treat her inhumanely was love for their other child. They did what they felt was best for their whole family by having her continue to donate. I think that although it could be interpreted as inhumane they thought that what they were doing was right and it came from a place of love. Of course people are always going to judge especially in something as controversial as this but you cannot truly know how it feels until you are in the same position. Would you consider having a “designer baby” to save one of your other children?
Yo dude, you’re right. I can’t believe people are like that in books. Like really? They weren’t being nice to anyone. and they couldn’t realize that all the stuffs they were dong for dat older sister was not helping her. It was just hurting her. Poor, poor girl……
I agree with bryan in fact that Sara bieleved that she was doing the right thing by making Anna go through all the operations becasue she was blinded by her love for Kate. She treated Anna inhumanly but it came from a place of love not hate.
What causes people to treat eachother inhumanely in My Sister’s Keeper is the cancer that Anna has developed over the years. The mother makes her youngest daughter Kate donate to her sister. Sarah (the girls’) mother never asked Kate for permission to willingly donate her body and organs to Anna. Kate eventually got older and decided to start defending herself by getting a lawyer involved and emancipating her own rights to her body, which in my opinion was the correct decision. I give Kate my respect by doing this and being brave through this whole process.
I completely agree when you say that Sarah was so wrapped up in saving Anna that she didn’t even think of how her other daughter was being effected. This family was clearly going through alot of pain and hurtful situations that everybody else had to fend for themselves causing many fights and anger. The whole truth is Anna didn’t want to be alive anymore. She was sick of struggling and dealing with the cancer. She realized she would never have a “normal” life. She saw what her disease was doing to her whole family and she felt bad for her little sister. She wanted Kate to have the life that she never did.
In My Sister’s Keeper, what causes people to treat others inhumanely is fear. Sara is afraid of losing her daughter Kate that she has Anna genetically made so that she can give essential organs and bone marrow to her sister who has leukemia. Anna’s needs are put far behind those of Kate’s. Anna has no say in what is given to Kate. Sara and Brian don’t realize when Jesse is home or away due to their overwhelming concern for Kate’s health. This concern causes their parents to treat the younger children inhumanely and focus only on Kate.
i agree with this i also think that her parents didnt think what they were doing is wrong because why would anna want to complain about saving her older sister. they didnt realize how much it they were hurting her over and over again
People treat eachother inhumanely most of the time for their own benefit and because they are selfish. Like in the Hunger Games, the government puts on the games just for their own entertainment. The games are wrong in all ways, shapes, and forms. For the government to make their own people do that just shows how cruel people can actually be, even if they are suppose to be there for you and support you.
i agree for the government to use their power to benefit only themselves is wrong. would you say they did this to instill their absolute power or just simply for the entertainment aspect?
The novel The Help, by Kathryn Stockett, takes place in the Civil Rights Movement. The way that the maids are treated by their white bosses just goes to show you the inhumanity that took place in 1960s Mississippi. After reading the novel, you can see the difference in attitude that the white woman have towards their maids. The biggest factors in the treatment of the maids are how the white women were brought up and what their social status is. Celia Foote grew up poor and married into wealth. She looked at Minny as more of a friend than help. Hilly Holbrook is married to a politician, which in 1960s Mississippi would more than likely be racist. Hilly saw herself above them. On top of that, if anybody found out she was associating with an African American, it could destroy her husband’s Career. If people in this era could see that they were not so different, they would have got along much better.
In The Hunger Games, the children participating in the hunger games are forced to treat one another inhumanely in hopes to save their own lives and the lives of their family. If the children don’t fight their families will be punished. The hunger games forced Katniss to do things to other children that she would not dream of doing in her dreams. She was forced to shoot one boy through the neck with an arrow in an attempt to save her friend Rue. The games forced people to treat others inhumanely.
I agree Kurt, the Hunger Games deffinetly shows how people can treat others inhumanely in many ways, and this is one of them! I like how you looked at the games through Katniss’ eyes. I know if I was her I would also be pushed to do things I would not want to do to survive. It is sad to think that, in most situations, you have to do things you would never do when you are put into a struggle for survival.
I agree. The children participating in the Hunger Games are forced to treat one another inhumanly in order to with the games. They have desire to win and greed to win.
In The Lovely Bones, no one treats anybody more inhumanely than Mr. Harvey. Mr. Harvey treats Susie and her family almost as if they are less of him. Why would Mr. Harvey do that to poor, innocent families? Possibly from previous violence, or maybe it makes him feel better about himself. Also maybe Mr. Harvey wanted to feel as though he had power above everyone else in society. Either way Mr. Harvey showed no respect what so ever for Susie and Susie’s family. That is the inhumanity shown in The Lovely Bones.
In the novel my sisters keeper by Jodi Picoult The mother Sara treats the yougest daughter anna unhumanly because she loses sight of the fact that anna is a person. Anna was created to be an organ donor to her sister kate which makes anna’s needs not as important as those of kates. Anna eventually gets sick of all the operations that dont seem to be helping Kate and are hurting her she decides she has to take action. This leads to anna suing her own mother to the rights to her own body. Sara didnt treat anna poorly on purpose she just loved Kate so much that she neglected the needs of Anna.
In the Lovely Bones the homicidal maniac George Harvey treated people inhumanly because he was an insane man. Some people cant help treating others wrong because there are not right mentally. George may have been a nice person on the outside but on the inside he was a killer. Which unfortunately Susie did not realize until it was to late.
Sometimes people treat others inhumanly like book The Lovely bones.People can act inhumanly because of what they are going through or what they have gone through. In this book the family of susins fades apart because of the death.they treat eachother inhumanely.another person that treats people inhumanely is the murderer of susins.he could have done this because of his childhood. when he was a child he could have got picked on and didnt have alot of friends. his family could have had a huge part in this too just they way they treated him.
Greedy is what causes people to act unhumanley like in the book My Sisters Keeper. In this book anna donates alot to her sister. Her mom only cares about the older sister because she has cancer. she doesnt care about anna. all she wants anna to do is donate bone marrow to her sister so it prolongs her from dieing. This is being greedy. also mothers shouldnt do that. they should love eachother equaly. In this book its not like that. she just wants anna for her bone marrow. I feel bad for anna because she is left out. Her mom doesnt care about her. If i was anna i would have a difficult time in that situation.
I disagree, I believe Sara does care about both daughter’s equally. I think Sara disregards how Anna is pretending to feel because she feels its the right thing to do. If Sara was a perfect match for her daughter Kate, she would give up her kidney in a second, even if it meant Kate could die through the procedure. Sara just wants to feel like she did everything she could to save her daughters life because she doesn’t accept that Kate has accepted her own death. If you were Anna, would you give up your kidney for Kate, even if she didn’t want you to and it meant that your life might be affected forever from the procedre?
In the novel The Lovely Bones, Suisie’s neighbor, Mr.Harvey, is a perfect example of an inhumane person. Due to his own lack of mental stability, he continuously views murder as a game and physically attacks many girls and women. The thought of killing drives him to create these devious plans in his mind. Mr.Harvey thinks very irrationally and feels no sympathy for any of his victims. Although Susie’s family is haunted by the thought of her killer and they repeatedly search for answers, he smoothly makes his way out of town and doesn’t even begin to feel bad.
Mr.Harvey never completely explains why he acts this way; we can only assume his childhood and the relationship with his mother had almost everything to do with it. Throughout the story, he clearly thinks of no one but himself. Don’t you think that if he would just think of others’ needs, his own aspirations would possibly disappear?
I agree that Mr. Harvey feels no sympathy for any of his victims. He also has no remorse for any of his gruesome acts of violence. He’s a seriel killer and takes tokens of each killing to help him relive the murders for his own complulsive sick need. Without being able to feel sympathy or remorse, or even empathy for the familes, we see he has lost (or never had) these essential humanistic qualities, making him the perfect example of an inhumane human being.
in the case of my sisters keeper anna is treated inhumanly by her parents in order to keep her sister alive. Her parents did not think what they were doing was bad in any way the assumed anna was fine with all the painful procedures because they meant saving her older sister. It wasnt until anna decided to pretty much sue her parents did they realize that she hated what they were doing to her. So in this case anna was treated inhumanly because her parents thought they were doing good and there were no really bitter feeling behind why they did it besides to save their first child.
In the Hunger Games power and control is ‘what causes people to treat each other inhumanely’.
An example is how children are forced to kill other children for the entertainment of the Capitol while keeping each district separated, isolated, and subjected to starving deplorable conditions.
Another example would be is how everyone is forced to watch their children and fellow districtees kill each other horrifically. In order to control all of the districts through the Hunger Games, every detail is controlled from how they dress, the terrain, weapons, manipulating weather and ‘muts’, etc. to completely sensationalize every aspect of murder for entertainment.
In My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, Sara Fitzgerald treats her daughter, Anna, inhumanely when she uses Anna to save her other daughter Kate. Before Anna was born, Kate was diagnosed with leukemia. Her parents, Sara and Brian, conceived Anna with the purpose to save Kate’s life. There are many examples of Sara treating Anna inhumanely throughout the novel. When Anna is young, Sara forces her to leave a birthday party to give blood for Kate. Sara never gave Anna a choice and thinks that yes, Anna will deal with pain, but the greater benefits are saving Kate’s life. Sara treats Anna inhumanely because she will do anything to save Kate’s life. If you were in Sara’s shoes, would you do anything to save Kate’s life? Even if it meant hurting Anna?
Sometimes, there are no reasons why people treat others inhumanely. In The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, Mr. Harvey rapes and kills Susie Salmon simply for thrills. Nothing caused Mr. Harvey to be so cruel and inhumane. It is as if killing is in his DNA. This is a great example of how gruesome Mr. Harvey is; “He had killed a young waitress inside the shack several years before and then bought some new slacks with the tips he’d found in the front pocket of her apron.” Do you think some people are born killers or chose to kill on their own? What would cause a murder, like Mr. Harvey, to prey upon the innocent?
Kate, I agree with what you’re saying. The only reason why Mr. Harvey killed Susie was to fulfill his needs. However not everyone is born a killer. Mr. Harvey became a killer due to experiences he faced growing up. A reason why a murderer could prey upon the innocent is simply because of psychological reasons. With all the violence Mr. Harvey saw as a child, he probably thought it was ok to hurt others because he had no one telling him it was wrong.
In the book The Hunger Games, what cause people to treat each other inhumanely is selfishness. The Capital does not care about the people in the districts. They have the power to get rid of anyone who defies them. They make sure people know they better obey the rules or suffer even more. The boy who tried to run away was killed and the girl that was with him became an Avox who had to wait on people in the capital. They made her mute to keep her in their control and to scare everyone else. When Katniss came up with the plan for her and Peeta to commit suicide at the Hunger games, the Capital was furious that she was trying to defy and humiliate them and her life was in danger because of this.
I completely agree with this. I really like how you brought up how Katniss decided to go against the Capital. The funny thing though is that even though Katniss for a bit of time worked the scheme for her and Peeta, the Capital soon got their control back when the competiton got to the two of them competing against eachother. Then they announced that there could only be one winner not two. Then again they changed it back to both of them being able to win when Katniss and Peeta pretended to do a double suicide. Some people just always need that tiny bit of control and they feel super powerful, but in reality they are the weakest.
After reading The Lovely Bones, it is my understanding that people treat each other inhumanely for personal satisfaction. When Mr. Harvey kills Susie, it is made very apparent that he is thoroughly satisfied in doing so. This is seen through his keeping her charm bracelet and the bloody knife he used to kill her. He takes these things as trophies to himself, for the crime which, although quite gruesome, gave him a feeling of accomplishment.
It is known that most serial killers and rapists feel a personal gain out of committing their crimes, and can relive the “rush” through items of their victims that they stash away for their own enjoyment. The body of Susie, and many other victims, is seen as disposable and worthless to the criminal. The feeling of achievement, which we all desire, holds deranged manifestation in the psyche of Mr. Harvey and others like him. Not only keeping the said items, but being able to successfully hide them, gives him a satisfaction that no sane person could ever fathom. Although horrifying to even consider, Mr. Harvey’s satisfaction is what drives him to treat others (Susie) inhumanely.
In Alice Sebold’s novel, The Lovely Bones, Mr. Harvey treats others inhumanely. But why? Perhaps Mr. Harvey witnessed violence as a child or was a victim himeself. Another possibilty for his inhumane actions in killing not only Susies, but multiple young women, could be lack of be taught right from wrong. Most children are brought up to know it is not right to steal, lie, or hurt one another. I doubt Mr. Harvey was verbaly told not to do any of those things. It is mentioned in the book he and his mother stole when he was a young boy. From poor examples, Mr. Harvey was brought up with ideas that some inhumane actions were okay. He does not think through what the consequences of his actions do not to himself, but to others. Mr. Harvey does not keep a count of how many boys and girls lost a sister due to his selfishness, or how many grandmothers and grandfathers will never see their granddaughters again because of him. He only kept count of the girls he has killed himself because he cared more about his own sick, self-indulgences.
I agree with Suzie that Mr. Harvey’s inhumane treatment towards others was a result of how he was raised as a child. He was taught through his mother that stealing and having control over people was positive. He was taught to leave without vulnerability, unlike a woman or a child. This upbringing developed his morals and from his morals, a mental illness developed. Do you think that George Harvey’s mental illness was just something he was born with, or something deeper that was created from his past?
I also agree with Suzie that how Mr. Harvey was brought up could be a major factor to how he was bought up as a child. If he was from a dark background where his family was as corrupt as him then that would usually rub off onto their children. Do you think that Geroge may have a hatred towards young girls because they never showed him the time of day when he was younger?
Wow! What a good question Geoff. I think that could definitely be one reason why Mr. Harvey treats young girls inhumanely and targets them. Also, If his mother had no respect for herself and possibly let other men control her, he could be subject to thinking young women do not deserve respect.
One big factor that causes people to be inhumane to each other is greed. Greed causes people to do terrible things. For example Greg Mortenson, started off with good intentions, then turned into a terrible person due to greed. When his company started making a large amount of money, Mortenson started to take some of the money for his own personal needs. After his foundation became more successful, it became less about the cause and more about himself.
i agree with you ethan the greed of the money he was making made him not think about the cause and lie and be selfish. He was supposed to build schools that he promised people from the east and donors to the cause but he never did.
In the book My Sisters Keeper the parents treat their son, Jesse, inhumanely by neglecting to take into account how their son was affected by his sisters illness and he almost caused another man’s death because he couldn’t deal with his emotions and was acting out setting fires and stealing.
In The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, George Harvey’s childhood hardships and memories develops his mental illness and causes him to treat others inhumanely. As a child, Harvey shoplifted with his mother because it earned him love. He learned to love the feeling of getting away with inhumane acts, like stealing from the dead, because it would earn him acceptance from his mother. He realized that life should not be lived vulnerably, like a woman or child. In result, he develops this mental illness and murders numerous women and children, including Susie Salmon.
In My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, Sara shows that selfishness can be the cause of inhumanity. Although she was trying to save Kate’s life, Sara showed inhumanity in having another child for the purpose of having a donor child. She didn’t think of how it might affect Anna before she was born. Sara didn’t ask Kate how she would feel about Anna donating her kidney, she was more concerned with keeping Kate alive.
In the novel My Sisters Keeper, by Jodi Picoult, I believe that the reason of inhumane treatment is from pure selfishness. Having a child to benefit her daughter Kate, that suffers from leukemia, is wrong in all ways possible. Sara apparently thought that it was right to have Anna donateing her bone marrow when she wasn’t old enough to even make her own descions. At first Anna did not mind donateing to keep her sister alive but then when something serious came along, like donateing one of her kidneys, she had a second look on it. For Sara not to care how her daughter feels about the situation is very selfish of her. Sara seemed to not realize that her inhumane actions strongly afftected her daughter. Eventually Anna takes her mom to court for medical emancipation so that she can make her own decsions on donating to her sister.
In The Lovely Bones, the question of what makes people treat eachother inhumanely is clearly answered. In this case and many others, we treat eachother inhumanely because of our own wants and needs. For example, Mr. Harvey kills Susie because after he is done with her he doesn’t need her anymore. He already got what he needed out of her and to make sure nothing was said for him to get introuble, he killed her. The fact that Mr. Harvey did not have a guilty conscience or felt bad for what he did proves how cruel people can be. How long could you go on with something bad before your conscience caught up with you?
In My Sister’s Keeper, I believe greed causes people to treat each others inhumanely, because kates parents were just trying to save her. i do think that people will change and become greedy when it comes to saving their kids. Brian and Sara i dont think wanted to hurt Anna they just wanted to save Kate. By them doing things against Annas will, or forcing her to do them, made them seem like bad parents by putting one child in pain to save another. At at the same time they were just trying to save kate, thats why Anna was born. Anna was also made because Jessie (Kate and Annas brother) was not a match, which is why Anna was specialy made so the doctors would be sure she would be a match for Kate. If you where Kate how would you feel if your parents were hurting your little sister to save you?, and would you want them to do this?
In the Hunger Games, the corrupt and overpowering government causes people (mainly children) to fight. This government control makes children fight for their lives in the Hunger Games (same as the title). this causes recognition of government control and causes people to treat each other inhumanely.
I agree with what Benjamin Turna had to say. I do agree that the government controled people in the book, as does the government controls the people today. This corruption causes death. :((
In the Hunger Games greed causes people to treat each other inhumanely. Greed causes people to treat each other inhumanely because the people are greedy for food. They will do anything for food. They need food to survive. As a result they are greedy and treat each other inhumanely.
Yes, i agree with Costaa entirely. Greed, in any situation, can cause harmful deeds, thus causing inhumane actions. Greed can get the best of anyone, especially in a struggle for survival.
I agree with thee Justin Costa. Greed plays a big role in this story as people fight to survive. Hunger and struggle do cause greed, after all.
In Three Cups of Deceit, Greg Mortenson shows lack of compassion for people in the middleast by pocketing more than half of the funds giving to the CAI (Central Asia Institute), which gives schools and support to people in the middleast. Most efforts of the CAI are failing because of this said action. Mortenson’s showing of noncompassion confirms his inhumane treatment of others.
i agree with you ben mortenson was inhuman by stealing funds and money from his not profitable group. Mortenson would lie to the people saying he was building schools in the east when he didnt build half of them witch was inhumane
I agree with Benjamin’s Turner. Mortenson’s actions were uncompassionate. He showed lack of compasssion by pocketeing the money and not caring for the middleeastern children with all of his deceit.
In the three cups of deceit Greg is inhumane by he shows lack of pity. He doesn’t care for the people. He could care less. He keeps some of the money, instead of giving it to schools. He does this for his personal gain.
Greg Mortenson’s immorality is proven in the book, Three Cups of Deceit. His Lack of pity is just one example of his inhumanity. I agree with Costa on this one, since Mortensen REALLY couldn’t care less.
In My Sisters Keeper, causes that make people treat each other unhumanely are selfishness and fear. Sara was terrified to lose Kate and that was the only reason why Anna was alive, to give Kate everything she could. Sara was nothing but selfish from the beginning when she made Anna for that very reason. Sara is in complete fear of losing Kate but it does not make anything easier for anyone. Kate does not want to continuing living the way she does. Anna feels like shes betraying her mother when she fights for herself and her sister. “I hate myself and just want to crawl back to where I was to the person they want me to be.”
Those are some great points! I hadn’t though of fear as being one of the reasons that people may treat others inhumanely. Now that i think of it Sara must have been scared out of her mind of losing her daughter that she couldn’t put much else in perspective. Perhaps thats why she made the selfish decision of having Anna? She really was trying to be altruistic and help Kate, but she was inhumane and did not realize how that action could effect the new child, Anna.
Megan Otto, I see exactly where you are coming from and I agree that greed is definately a reason people treat each other inhumanely. I know that if I was Kate I would not want to see my little sister having to take her own body parts for me. Regardless to how sick I was, I would not be okay with that. I think you are right about how Sara and Brian wanted to save Kate but they also should have been thinking much more about Anna as well.
Sam, Sara did not show any sympathy for Anna due to the selfish and cold hearted. Sara’s favorite was Kate, and she made sure to put Kate’s health in front of Annas. Absolutely digusting to have a child for body parts and know love.
In The Lovely Bones the main cause is personal gain or just plan ignorance. Mr.Harvey killed Susie Salmon for his own sick twisted pleasure, He knew she did not want to have sex with him or anyone else especially being 14 years old and he did not care. Mr.Harvey made her family suffer, but also made it so they did not know if she was alive or not. “A heart that flashed from heart to stone.” He was a ignorant man who did not care about anyone else or what they wanted. The things he did to that girl are extremely large causes of why people treat each other inhumanely.
In the Lovely Bones it shows that people treat eachother inhumanely due to the fact that some people may just be sick in the head and just get shear pleasure out of it. George Harvey shows this because he had made a number of murders before his death simply because he wanted to. I feel like the end of Mr. Harvey was just karma catching up to him with the dirty past that he had with him.
The Hunger Games shows many examples of how one can treat another inhumanely. For example the people of the districts become very greedy for food and they will do anything to survive and to obtain the food. Also just the fact that if one district has something that another does not it seems like there could be jealousy. For example the 13th district was destroyed becuase they were just an example of what could be done when u have such power to do such a thing. In closing power and greed are two componets that with enough time will coruppt even the nicest people.
What causes people to treat each other inhumanely in The Lovely Bones is selfishness. In this novel Mr. Harvey rapes and murders Susie and all the other women for his own pleasure and self indulgence. He most likely did all of these things because of what happened in his childhood. He thinks it’s okay to do these things. He doesn’t think about what Susie went through when he raped her or what Susie’s family will go through after her death. He only thought about himself, and how to make sure he didn’t get caught after he committed these sick crimes. He made clever traps and tried to make a sly escape out of town but in the end he gets what he deserves.
In the hunger games the careers where inhumane they thought they where better then the other districts. The capitol is also inhumane by having children fight for there lifes against there friends and other children. By having the hunger games this makes chilidren in them act inhumane against eachother. In these example people or goals can lead people to being inhumane
In the book three cups of decite mortsons was inhumane. He stole from his nonprofitable orgization and lide to the public and media. He wrote books about him helping the people of east building school as a nonfiction book but really it mostly fiction.
In the book The Help the African American women aren’t treated the same as other women in society. The cause of this we do not know. During the 1960’s it was an era of racism. African American women were involved with these families doing everything they were told. These women were loved by the children of the families and were treated completely inhumanly by the young wives of the families. Why were these women treated differently? Just because of there skin color?
Greg Mort is a very inhumane to people like the people of afganistan and Packistan who believed in Greg who made promises that he couldnt keep such as the teacher and books were bad nevermind the fact that he used the money from the organization to his own benefit with his travels.
I agree that Greg treats the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan inhumanly. He didn’t keep his promises with them and treated them bad.
in the book sarah’s key the reason people treat each other inhumanely is because of the occupation of their country. befor the war everyone was friendly with each other and helping each other out but after their country was occupied they treated the jews like the scum of the earth. some people did not treat the jews bad and where always nice to them but when they are arrested they can not do anything to help them. but why are they being arrested? becuase they are jewish thats no reason to arrest them.
What causes people to treat each other inhumanly is the need to survive, and being selfish to help yourself more than helping others. As in The Hunger Games, the tributes were acting inhumane for the need to survive against the other tributes.
In The Hunger Games selfishness causes the people of Panem to treat each other inhumanely forces the young of their twelve districts to fight the capitols battles. The citizens of the districts do what they must for themselves and their families. Would you do what you had to, to protect your friends and family? That questions forces people to drastic means as Peeta and Katniss threatened themselves with suicide via poisonous berries. In all the cause for people treating others inhumanely is seemingly a necessity to themselves and their survival and reputation.
People treat others inhumanely for two reasons. People either treat others differently because either the people are different or the person treating others inhumanely have low self confidence or self insecurity. Mr. Harvey is secluded from the community so he feels that treating another person inhumanely would make him feel better about himself. He neglected any form of social decency and raped Susie. Considering Mr. Harvey had killed a considerable amount of people already, the problems why he treated these people inhumanely must have been rooted from maybe childhood problems or maybe something that occurred in his life messed him up. How would you deal with your emotions if you were in Mr. Harvey’s situation?
In the Hunger Games, the Capitol treats the other districts inhumanly especially during the games. The reason might be because of the power they have. When a pperson has a lot of power they feel like they can treat other people like that.
Greg, in Three Cups of Deceit, is inhumane to the people in which he couldn’t keep his promises to. He lies to the people about the school and shows selfishness and greed.
Selfishness causes ones to treat others inhumanly. In the book, “Sarah’s Key” I learned alot about the Holocaust and Nazi Germany. The selfishness of one leader, Hitler, killed so many in his act to “ethnic clense” the world. Groups of people were killed in mass numbers (millions) due to either their religion/backround, or their appearence. A total missuse of power in my eyes.
Love causes people to treat others inhumanely. this is shown in My Sister’s Keeper with the relationship between Sara and Anna. Sara had so much love for her dieing daughter Kate that she had another baby, Anna, just so she could be used for bone marrow, kidney, and other body parts. Sara was blinded so much by the love of one child that she ignored the fact that she was treating one of her daughters just for her body parts. Sara would never realize that she was treating Anna so badly if it wasn’t for Kate talking to her about it.
Jordan I agree with post, It is true on how Sara loved Kate so much that she would do anything for her, and didn’t realize what she was missing out on Anna and her other children. Clearly she wasn’t paying much attention to anybody else but Kate.
Jordan I agree. It shows how much she truly loved her daughter, so much that it consumed her life making her ignorant to her other childrens needs.
I believe that Anna’s mom Sara Fitzgerald in My Sisters Keeper is inhumane, because she’s using Anna to help Kate, but inevitably Kate is going to die. Anna was told by Kate to sue her parents because Kate doesn’t want to live anymore and keep going through the pain. Kate try’s to tell her parents that she wants to die but her mom keeps denying it and not wanting it to be true.
In the book The Lovely Bones Mr. Harvey treats Susie Salmon and other victims inhumanely. He treats others inhumanely mostly because of his selfishness and because he’s insane due to his childhood. Mr. Harvey treats Susie inhumanely when he rapes her then kills her and hides the body. This is the selfish and psychopathic act of none other than a homicidal maniac.
In the book Sarah’s Key i believe it is fear that cause people to treat others inhumanely. Some soldiers knew that carrying out Hitlers orders was wrong but did so anyway out of fear of consequences. the fear of what could happen to them had they not obeyed out weighed that which resulted from simply ignoring the harshness of their actions. on the other hand i believe that some soldiers simply didn’t see the severity in their actions and acted out of ignorance.
People often treat others inhumanly out of selfishness. In the Hunger Games all twelve districts are treated inhumanly by the government. The capital lives very comfortably while the twelve districts poor. To the capital, the Hunger Games are a form of entertainment. The tributes in the arena are forced into violence all for the pleasure and gain of the capital.
In My Sister’s Keeper, Anna is treated inhumanely. She is treated like so because she was intended to be parts for her sister. Although the reader and tell Anna is not treated like someone should, the parents don’t see it that way. The parents look at it as she is helping her sister, when in reality Anna is a young girl who needs to live too. This treatment roots from the severity of will Sara has to keep her daughter alive. Jodi Picoult show’s this trait through Sara very well.
In the exquisite novel, My Sister’s Keeper, the main character Anna was treated inhumanely. Her parents made her in a test tube to save the older sister, Kate. Kate has leukemia and is slowly dying. It’s actually pretty sad, if I do say so myself. The parents are driven by greed and selfishness. These qualities cause them to treat others inhumanely. There isn’t much more I can say. I deeply enjoyed this book, it changed my life.
In My Sisters Keeper Sara treats her children Anna and Jesse inhumanely. She does not do this because she does not love them, but because she is blindsided by the fact that her other child has cancer. Her son Jesse involvement with drugs possibly was a product from Sara’s lack of attention towards him. She was so worried about Anna’s sickness that she resorted to having another baby who was genetically engineered to have the right body parts for Kate. Anna feels as thought this action was inhumane and that the only reason she is on this earth is for her sisters sake. Cancer is an awful thing and some people make it there goal to beat and overcome it. Since Kate can’t do it for herself, Sara makes it her own goal not to let Kate fall to leukemia. Sometimes tragedy and disease can cause people to act and treat others inhumanely.
In The Lovely Bones, the question “What causes people to treat each other inhumanely” can be answered by noting that Mr. Harvery has a severe mental problem that leads him to rape and murder helpless victims. He coud have been born with this mental illness, however, the circumstances of his life while growing up definately helped feed his fantasies and led him to kill. However, he had enough of his mind to figure out how to premeditate and cover his actions, which would mean that in a court of law, he was not mentally insane. He was just evil. He was all about his own self and his own needs even if that meant killing young women/girls for his own sick need to feel good.
In the Lovely Bones it’s hard to believe that someone could hurt another person in the way George Harvey raped and murdered Susie Solomon, and other women. While reading the book you find out how his childhood turned him into a murderer. The biggest thing that made him that way was when he and his mother were sleeping on the side of the road and two men attempted to rape his mother. He did exactly what his mother told him to do and they got away. It was that day that he decided the two worst thing to be were a women and a child. In his mind by killing them he was actually saving them.
